GARLIC PARMESAN ROASTED ASPARAGUS
This Garlic Parmesan Roasted Asparagus dish requires only a handful of basic ingredients and serves as an ideal accompaniment to any meal. Crisp but tender asparagus is seasoned with salt and pepper, coated in olive oil, garlic, and parmesan cheese, and then roasted in the oven. This is the ULTIMATE method for preparing asparagus!
Asparagus ranks among my preferred vegetables. It's an ideal accompaniment for nearly any dish and makes a frequent (almost weekly) appearance at our dinner table. This simple asparagus dish is the method I've been using for years, and it has received fantastic feedback since I first shared it more than eight years ago!
There are various methods to prepare asparagus; you can steam it, grill it, or sauté it, among others. However, the simplest method, and my top choice, is to roast asparagus in the oven.
A magical transformation occurs when you place crisp-tender asparagus in the oven and roast it until it's perfect. Roasting enhances the natural sweetness in this asparagus dish and eliminates the bitterness as well.
This method is quite straightforward, but it enhances the nutty, deep flavors and introduces a delightful crispy texture.
Garlic and parmesan rank among my favorite components to incorporate into nearly any savory dish, so including them in this baked asparagus recipe was obvious. Add a bit of salt and pepper, then mist with olive oil and you're set to bake!
Ingredients for Asparagus Roasted
Select asparagus that is vibrant in color and features tightly closed tips with a hint of green or purple. Below, I have additional tips for selecting the ideal bunch of asparagus!
Salt and black pepper – utilize freshly ground pepper and add as much salt as you like. I season my food quite liberally.
Fresh Garlic – you will require 3-4 cloves of minced garlic.
Cheese – I suggest opting for freshly grated parmesan cheese. It enhances the nutty taste of the asparagus perfectly.
Olive oil spray – this aids in adhering everything to the asparagus. You may also opt for a splash of olive oil rather than the spray.
Suggestions and Remarks
I arrange my roasted asparagus on the identical cookie sheet where it cooks. I can't tolerate more dishes to clean, so if a recipe offers a shortcut, I take it! Simply ensure that you use a rimmed baking tray and cover it with foil or parchment paper. It will simplify the cleanup process as well.
The ideal method for storing asparagus is to keep it standing in a bowl or wide glass filled with cold water in the refrigerator. If you're short on space for this technique, you can alternatively wrap the base of your asparagus in a moist paper towel before placing it in the refrigerator. This will keep your asparagus fresh and crunchy.
To enhance the flavor of your asparagus, squeeze some lemon juice on it before roasting.
Avoid cooking it too much! I enjoy cooking my asparagus for roughly 8-9 minutes. If you cook it longer than that, the asparagus becomes too mushy for my taste. I prefer it to be slightly firm and not soft.
Keep leftovers in a sealed container in the refrigerator for a maximum of three days.
How to Select the Finest Asparagus
When searching for asparagus at the grocery store or farmers market, there are several factors to consider:
Seek asparagus spears that are tightly closed and possess vibrant green or purple tips. If the tips are yellow, they’ve exceeded their peak quality.
Examine the thicker ends for freshness. Seek out asparagus with fresh, plump tips. If the tips are dehydrated, continue searching.
Asparagus is available in the springtime. February through June is generally the best period to buy asparagus for optimal flavor and freshness.
